A Taste for Life is a sensational evening to sample fabulous wines, craft beers and sweet treats while supporting groundbreaking research advancing lung cancer treatments and therapies at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Hosted by Susan and Steven Roney, Sharon and Tom McCann and the family of Sue Sullivan.
Funds raised by A Taste for Life will be used to support groundbreaking research advancing lung cancer treatments and therapies at Roswell Park. Currently, Roswell Park has two very promising lung cancer initiatives that A Taste for Life will support:
CIMAvax-EGF® Lung Cancer Vaccine – Roswell Park is the first and only organization in the nation to offer this innovative lung cancer vaccine, developed by Cuba’s Center for Molecular Immunology, to patients in the United States. Evidence from the clinical studies conducted in Cuba show that the vaccine has been effective in treating late-stage lung cancers and those at high risk for the disease, but further studies are needed before it can be made widely available to patients in the United States. With the first phase of clinical trials underway, extensive funding is needed to ensure further studies can continue and CIMAvax is able to reach its full potential.
OmniSeq Immune Report Card – OmniSeq, a Roswell Park partner, is developing a cutting-edge test that measures the probability of a patient’s response to immunotherapy drugs for advanced stage lung, melanoma, kidney and renal cell cancers. By evaluating key indicators for the patient’s positive or negative response, providers can better determine whether a patient may stand to benefit from immunotherapies or if other treatments should be considered. While the test may help patients avoid unnecessary treatments and save lives, insurance providers will want to see clinical evidence of its success impacting patient care. Funding is needed to cover the cost of the test so that all individuals who could benefit from it have access to it, and so Roswell Park can collect the data that insurance providers are seeking to justify including the test in their coverage.
