A Taste for Life is a sensational evening to sample fabulous wines, craft beers and sweet treats while supporting groundbreaking research advancing lung cancer treatments and therapies at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Hosted by Susan and Steven Roney, Sharon and Tom McCann and the family of Sue Sullivan.
Funds raised by A Taste for Life will be used to support groundbreaking research advancing lung cancer treatments and therapies at Roswell Park. Currently, Roswell Park has two promising lung cancer initiatives that A Taste for Life will support.
Combating Drug Resistance for Lung Cancer Patients: Drs. Hershberger and Wu have developed a novel, tumor-targeted nanomedicine that will aid in solving the clinical problem of EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal transition) associated drug resistance seen in lung cancer patients. Currently, there are no effective approaches that reverse EMT resistance, which helps treatments work better in certain patients.
Personalized Experimental Models to Guide Precision Lung Cancer Therapy: Drs. Goodrich and Dy seek to identify effective new genetic mutation therapies by using living tumor cell cultures. A recently developed technology called organoid cultures will make it possible for researchers to characterize the DNA sequence of the organoids to experimentally identify current and future therapies that work best on tumors with specific genetic mutations. The biobank that is developed will also be used to identify ways to overcome resistance to current therapies.
